Bristol Wreck Softball Tournament

This weekend was the Bristol Wreck tournament. I was chatting to Krista on Thursday and asked if she wanted to play and she was keen. So I picked her up at Reading train station and we headed over to Bristol. Helen was going home to Poole but left her keys with Dina (who lives downstairs) and we were able to stay at hers. That was such a relief otherwise we would have had to camp and the weather wasn't looking too good.
Saturday morning we got up early and headed out to the sports ground for our 9am start. It was looking pretty grey with the clouds but I was told we played in the rain and only stopped if there was lighting as obviously we would be holding metal bats! I couldn't believe it. Anyway the rain started and we still played! We were playing for the Sharks this time as there were SUPPOSED to be only C & D division teams, as time wore on we noticed how many B grade teams were there!!! Anyway we didn't win and a team in the D division, Friendly Fire, needed extra girls as they were short. Krista & I volunteered so instead of playing 5 games, with an hour off in between each game we ended up playing 7 games on Saturday. All our Shark matches we lost! Whoops but had heaps of fun anyway, we mixed it up and everyone got to play different positions. Our games with the Fire's though were good, we actually won a couple.
After a tiring day (finished at 6pm) we trudged home. We were soooooooo lucky not to be camping as there was mud everywhere and I heard later that there was no hot water! When we got back to Helen's, Dina had cooked us dinner at her place so we just had to go down 2 floors and we were there. There was a huge disco at the campsite in one of the sports halls, so Krista & I headed over there after dinner. It was great laugh with plenty of drink (not for me as I was driving) and lots of cheesy dancing. Some people had been drinking all day and were still going! How they did it I don't know. At about midnight I was tired and we headed back to our warm comfy beds knowing we weren't playing until 10am the next day!
Sunday morning we woke up to brilliant sunshine! it was going to be a great day! Famous last words. Got a text from Mark (our pitcher) saying that Graham (who had pulled a hamstring) was in a lot of pain and they were going to have to take him home or to a hospital and couldn't play. That meant Mark, Pete, Graham & Ben had all pulled out of the tournament at 9.30am!!! Can you believe it. Why didn't he just got back to sleep at the hotel and the others could have come and finished the comp. We were stuck. Luckily Amanda (Our captain) managed to get 5 ringers to play for us as if you don't have equal numbers of boys & girls you can't play. And ofcourse the rain started up again. So basically we lost every game we played! Oh well it was heaps of fun, although very cold. Krista & I played for the Fire's again and apparently they finished 2nd! Obviously due to our skills. We didn't make the semi's with the Sharks so we were able to take off at 5ish and we were so tired after 11 games of softball and lots of walking in between pitches. A very quiet drive to Reading to drop Krista off and then it was straight home for me to hop in a warm shower.

Today my legs are sooooo stiff and I'm supposed to be playing softball with work tomorrow night! Hopefully they will loosen up a bit tonight.
And the worst news of all. I'm not sure if you will be able to believe it but........... I forgot my camera!!! NO PHOTOS. I am devastated. I couldn't believe it. And I when I took it to the pitch it was pouring with rain so didn't want to get it out. I think I might have 2 pics which I will up load later.

Busy, Busy week!

Monday : Met up with Carrie, who was staying at a posh 5 star hotel down the road from my job site. A nice chat, cuppa tea & biscuit.

Tuesday: Drinks down at Greenwich with Nat, Lou & Baza. Still trying to get Nat's boss to get me free tickets to see Barry Manilow at the O2 stadium! Imagine, i write the songs that make the whole world sing........

Wednesday: Nat & I met up with Mike in the westend for a drink after work. It was short but sweet, with arrangements to organise a big get together at the end of the month.

Thursday: Cooking, cleaning, washing

Friday: Left work early as it was my softball tournament in Bristol and Helen was so lovely that she let Krista & I stay at her place even though she wasn't there. Saved us from camping.

VERY VERY BUSY WEEK!

Lida's Hens Weekend

Things seem to have got away from me last week so didn't have time to update you on my busy social schedule!
Last weekend (9th &10th Aug) Lida came down to Portsmouth on Saturday to celebrate her hen's weekend with me as I was unable to make the official one. We shopped all Saturday afternoon down at Gun Wharf and got some unreal bargains! Lida talked me into buying some wedges (photos to follow next post) and we picked up a few other bargains. After a full day shopping it was back to the penthouse for pizza, icecream & Grey's Anatomy. We ended up watching the first 3 episodes of series 4 (which I have seen 3 times!) then it was a chick flick - P.S. I Love You. So sad but funny. Then off to bed as we had an early start on Sunday.
Sunday we headed off to Winchester for our day at a local health spa. The sun was shining and you couldn't have asked for a better day. Lida swam whilst I had my hour long body massage. So relaxing! Then I read my book for an hour whilst she had hers. A leisurely lunch of ceasar salad followed, forgot to ask for NO ANCHOVIES and found they had put about 5 huge ones on the top. Mum you would have loved them. Luckily was able to move them without contaminating any other food! After that we both went in for our 1 hr deluxe facials. I think we both came out glowing. Sadly the day had to come to an end and it was off to the train station to drop Lida off. So much fun and heaps of time to catch up and chat!

Rock On!!!

We will, we will, ROCK YOU!!! Thursday night I met up with Annabel, Colin & Steve and we had a lovely dinner at Busaba Eathai. Its a fantastic Thai restaurant where I had a birthday party over 4 years ago. After dinner Annabel, Colin & I headed to the Dominion Theatre for the 7.30pm showing of the musical We Will Rock You. We had amazing seats as usual. It was different from what we have seen before and I probably should have read the synopsis of what it was about. It was set in the future and there are no musical instruments on the planet. The Queen songs were unreal and had a great time bopping along to it. After the show it was time to head home.
Whoops was a bit tired and fell asleep on the train only to wake up at the end of the line at 1am! Luckily from me the end of the line is only one stop from me or £4 taxi ride home. There was some guy fully passed out on the seat, but I was so tired I couldn't be bothered waking him up. Then it was up again at 5.30am this morning to come back to London! Very tired today.

Having my tooth fixed today. Exciting stuff.

Pipes, Plants & Planes

Another week in London. What a long week it was. I was exhausted on Friday night and had an awesome sleepin on Saturday, only getting up at 2pm as the Dyno drain guy was coming. Our kitchen sink has been giving off a bit of stink ever since I moved in and when you ran the washing machine the water would bubble up into the kitchen sink and sit there for an hour before it drained out. So after he stuck a very only metal stick thing down it a whole lot of rubbish came out. Check out the pick on the right, that is what came out. He said that was a build up over the years of soap scum, fat, foods everything that goes down the kitchen sink. It looks like a chunk of concrete. Crazy! So he finally left and I got on with the laundry. Unfortunately the water came up again but only half an inch and drained straight away. I called him back to let him know and he came back at 8pm and stuck the wiggly stick down from the kitchen end. He said as the pipe is flat for about 10m the water and stuff just sits in the bottom and that there was nothing we could do about it! Oh well. Finally by about 10pm he pronounced it as good as it's going to get without us ripping up the skirting board. So it was off to bed for me.

Sunday morning, Sam & I got up ridiculously early to get the train up to London as the Red Bull Air race was on and Natasha had organised a do at her job site as they are right on the Thames at Greenwich. It was sunny in the morning but came over dark. It was a great day and Ben, Paul & Greta came with me as well. Although have to say, seen one plane, seen em all! Nat's jobsite laid out a great buffet of food & drink and I decided to indulge in a kit kat, big mistake. Obviously the kit kat was made of metal as I broke a bit of my back tooth off when eating it! Crazy. Luckily it doesn't hurt and that my dentist is in London so have an appointment Wednesday for an assessment to the damage. Fingers crossed he can fix on the cheap. Along trip home with me sleeping most of the way and the weekend was suddenly over.

I'm still in London and HR has decided to leave me in London for the next month as I'm on holiday's in 28 DAYS!!! and then a decision will be made after that as to where I'm going to be based. So not going to worry about anything until after the hols.

My lavender plant by the way is outta control! She is huge but some of her leaves are a bit wrinkly, maybe too much water. Going to do a bit of research, but she is flowering!! So pretty and smells beautiful.
